Patents & industrial designs

Unlike trademarks, Nepal does not publish a per-record register for patents or industrial designs, and grants very few — patents number in the single-to-low-double digits per year. Only aggregate application/grant counts are available, via the WIPO country profile and the Department of Industry’s industrial statistics. There is no searchable patent or design dataset in Nepal — the trademark register is the only IP right published at the record level.

Methodology & sources

  • Trademarks: computed from IP Sewa’s index of 70,608 marks published in 121 Department of Industry Industrial Property Bulletins (published/accepted marks, not all finally registered). Exact counts, refreshed with each new issue.
  • Copyright: the Nepal Copyright Registrar’s Office aggregate summary (through Ashadh 2083 (mid-2026)); category figures are approximate where the source is a scanned table, with the total held exact.
  • Patents & designs: no per-record data is published by DoIND; aggregate counts via WIPO / DoIND industrial statistics.
